LAURA HAMEL

ABOUT LAURA

Laura Hamel is an actor based in Toronto, ON. Growing up surrounded by the prairie soundstages of Regina, Saskatchewan, Laura began exploring her love of the arts at the age of twelve. Her first professional role came that same year: you can find her in Season 2 of Corner Gas, sassing Davis and jumping on his police car. You might say this moment made her a rebel, or maybe a dreamer, or heck, why not both?

Laura packed her dreams and experiences into a suitcase and moved across the country when she was accepted into the Toronto Metropolitan University’s Performance Acting Program. She graduated in 2017 with distinction, and was the proud recipient of the Gladys Shibley Mitchell Memorial Award, an award given to a student who showcases academic proficiency and an exceptional ability in and dedication to the performing arts.

During her time at TMU, Laura explored and was trained in multiple facets of acting. She studied classical theatre and text with Ian Watson, stage combat with Steve Wilsher, clown with Leah Cherniak, physical movement theatre with Adam Paolozza, Stella Adler technique, Meisner technique… the list goes on.

Since graduating, Laura has become known in the Toronto industry for her wit, her intense attention to detail, her captivating presence and the intricacies she brings to each character. She currently trains with Sophie Ann Rooney of RAW Actors’ Studio, and studies regularly with John Gordon and Shaun McComb of The Dirt Underneath.

When not acting, Laura can be found at her local coffee shop writing poetry with a coffee in hand (sometimes a beer), or listening to podcasts at the gym. In the wild, you might spot Laura on a long walk, greeting every dog she meets and dreaming of one day walking her own Dachshund. If you asked her, “why a Dachshund?,” she’d probably respond, “because they have short legs like me: I feel like we’d just understand each other,” probably while trying to keep up to one of her absurdly long-legged friends.

Laura is represented by Christopher Ian Bennett at HectiQ Artists Talent Management. She is an active member in good standing with ACTRA.
